MMC on HIV/AIDS at Daporijo
ITANAGAR, Dec 29: Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society in association with Upper Subansiri Women Welfare Society, Daporijo conducted HIV/AIDS awareness cum beauty contest as part of the ongoing Multi Media Campaign (MMC) through sports and music at Singik Hall, Daporijo yesterday.
Former Minister Nyato Rigia while inaugurating the programme advised the youth to remain safe from HIV and drugs. He also stressed on empowerment of women for the upliftment of the society.
APSACS Deputy Director (IEC) Tashor Pali explained the four routes of HIV/AIDS transmission. While stressing on this year’s theme of the campaign, ‘Understand AIDS. End Discrimination’, he said that people tend to discriminate people living with HIV which is clear violation of basic human right. If we understand AIDS properly the stigma and discrimination can be done away with easily, he said.
He also urged the youth to remain safe as more than 60 percent of HIV positive people in the state are from the age group of 15 to 39 years.
A drama on HIV/AIDS awareness depicting the vulnerability youths to HIV/AIDS was the main attraction of the show. The drama organized by USWWS also stressed on the role of parents in upbringing of their children so that children do not go errant and contract HIV.
‘No place for indiscipline in BJP’
ITANAGAR, Dec 29: State BJP president Tai Tagak has said that there is no place for indiscipline in the party.
Addressing a party meeting at Bomdila on way to Tawang yesterday, Tagak said that “No single leader can correct the course of system which is completely rusting in the state under the Congress Government since its inception. Strong organization based party leaders and committed workers instilled with sense of patriotism and spirit of national services; the BJP can only give good governance, security and development to the people,” Tagak asserted. Tagak also reviewed party organizational matters and activities of the party in West Kameng and called upon the party workers and cadres to maintain strict discipline.
Party’s state general secretaries Dominic Tadar, BR Waghe, party spokesman Techi Necha, State BJYM president Dugh Saha also spoke in the meeting.
Meanwhile, BJP in another release said that it did not level allegation against any organization in connection with the recent fuel crisis in the state capital.
“The party had only drew the attention of the state Govt. for failing to manage the fuel crisis in the state capital for several days,” the release said while reacting to a news item published in local dailies today. Without naming any organization, the party urged not to react without properly going through the press statement.
Ering visits Seren village
ITANAGAR, Dec 29: Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering today visited Seren village and assured the villagers to approach the authority concerned for early construction of railway level crossings at approach roads of Seren, Pam, Old Deka and New Deka villages of Ramle Banggo under East Siang district. He also promised fund for completion of the yet to be completed PMGYS road from village Football Ground to Dere (Community Hall) measuring 500M (approx).
Earlier, the villagers of Seren submitted a memorandum to the minister urging him for early construction of railway level crossings in approach roads of all those villages for safety and security of the villagers.

ANSU serves 60 days ultimatum to SMS Smelter factory
ITANAGAR, Dec 29: All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) has expressed serious concern over the air pollution created by SMS Smelter Industrial Unit located at Lekhi village, Naharlagun posing serious health risks.
In a release, ANSU General Secretary Arjun Panye claimed that the factory has been established in total violation of many provisions of Acts meant for establishment of hazardous company.
“This factory being primary metallurgical industries, manufacturing lead and ferro alloys materials, which emits most hazardous substances in form of dust, fumes and residues and falls under Red category of the company, needs strict compliance of all Acts for establishment of such kind of the industry. The smoke emitted from factory and waste materials in the form of residues are very hazardous and pose danger to health and environment.

He further added, “Everyone is aware that industry should be established within notified/designated industrial areas /industrial estates. And it is further laid down that the hazardous factory shall not be established within the village area. But this factory has been established in the heart of Lekhi village and at a distance of one kilometer from Model Village and 2 kilometers from Borum village by obtaining permission from some section of people by fraudulent means. It has not been established in an industrial estate or in a notified area for the same.”
The ANSU claimed that the company officials cheated the poor and innocent villagers and obtained signatures of some section of people by misinforming them that the factory would not emit hazardous fumes and substances, and even if it emits, they would give proper treatment for waste materials. They also alleged that SMS Smelter have not constructed the chimneys as per norms and waste materials are also not disposed of as per procedures and norms established by the laws. Further it is found that waste material and poisonous water are being discharged at Barapani River without any treatment and thereby putting the human and animal life at risk. While stating that ANSU welcomes all kind of developmental activities, Panye said the unon is opposing the SMS Smelter only on environmental ground.
ANSU gave them 60 days to shift the factory from Lekhi village to other suitable place failing which, the union said, will take its own course of action.
“If they are unable to find land, we are ready to provide them land in the outskirt where there is less human habitation,” the ANSU GS said.

Police have nabbed two hardcore NDFB (S) cadres from Simenchapori area and they have been remanded to judicial custody.
“Our police force along with the Quick React Team (QRT) is continuing operation at vulnerable areas including Uluwoni, Mesaki Chapori, Bogori Chapori and adjoining riverine sites falling under Pachim Jonai area. We are mobilizing the people against the militants and alerted the local villagers not to provide food and shelter to them,” said a senior police officer here.
Sources further said that the NDFB (S) is conducting massive recruitment drive in Bodo populated rural areas of the district in order to increase its military strength. However, many of the armed cadres have fled the area after launching of the operation while some of them are suspected to be hiding in dense jungles.
According to top ranking Assam Police officials, some aimless youths are joining the outfit only to make money without being influenced by any ideology.
19th Senior State Level Karate Do Championship concludes
SAI SAG centre emerge overall champion
ITANAGAR, Dec 29: Sports Authority of India, Special Area Game Centre (SAI SAG), Naharlagun emerged as the overall champion in the 19th Senior State Level Karate Do Championship which concluded at Nikum Niya hall, Nirjuli today.
A total of 64 players and 25 officials from seven districts, including Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, East Siang, Anjaw, Papum Pare, Kurung Kumey, East Kameng and Arunachal Pradesh Police Team and various clubs/teams from Capital Complex participated in the two days event.
The closing ceremony was attended by Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board (APBOCWWB) Chairman Jalley Sonam, Nirjuli Councillor Tarh Nachung, Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) Vice Chairman Likha Tara and Sports and Youth Affairs Joint Secretary M Kamki.
Yesterday, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso inaugurated the championship in presence of SAA Vice Chairman Tara, who is also the president of Arunachal Karate Association (AKA).
In his speech, Kaso lauded the efforts of AKA in promoting and making karate as one of the most popular sports in Arunachal Pradesh. He encouraged the players to maintain strict discipline and practice hard to achieve success.
In his brief speech, Tara advised the players to not play the sport only to win one or two medals to get a govt. job; but play it to win more laurel for the state and the country as well.
“If you win medals, there will be no problem for you to get a job under 10percent sports quota,” Tara said.
Heads of all karate styles in Arunachal, instructors/judges and senior karate players attended the championship and took active part in making the championship a grand success.
The tournament was organized by Arunachal Nihon Shotokan Karate Do Association. Sensei S Deben Sarmah and P Nobin Jomoh were the organizing Chairman and Secretary respectively.
ITANAGAR, Dec 29: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has congratulated Dr Nani Bath, Associate Professor and the present Head of the Department of Political Science, Rajiv Gandhi University, for being conferred the prestigious Indian Political Science Association National Young Scientist Award for the year 2013.
Back in the state capital from New Delhi after attending a meeting of Congress Chief Ministers with AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi, Tuki expressed happiness that the talent and contribution of Dr. Bath in the field of political science has been aptly recognized by the Indian Political Science Association.
“Knowing that Dr Bath has been recognized by the highest and largest academic and professional body of teachers and scholars of Political Science and Public Administration in India has not only elated every citizen of Arunachal Pradesh but also proved the fact that indigenous people of the state are not behind anyone when it comes to individual talent,” he said in a statement this evening. The Chief Minister hailed Dr Bath’s achievement and expressed hope that he would continue his pursuit of excellence in his chosen field and share the scholastic gains with his students.
“I believe Dr Bath will become a source of inspiration for our bright minds and the younger generation will take a cue from his achievements,” he added.

Water supply dries up at Jarkong village

Through your esteemed daily I would like to highlight the pathetic condition of water supply in some localities of Pasighat town since the beginning of this month.
It’s been almost a month and not a single drop of water is available in government pipes, which is causing lots of problem and misery to our lives. Common masses are forced to collect water from far plunging places.
Most shockingly, no step is being taken to resolve water crisis by PHED department, Pasighat even after so many days. So, on behalf of the inhabitants of Jarkong people of Pasighat, I would like to request the local MLA, councilor and concerned officials of PHED to look into this matter very seriously so as to end our daily suffering.

Waiting for Kamla district since 80s
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily we would like to highlight the problems faced by citizens of Raga assembly constituency. Being local denizens of Raga constituency we personally know the problem of this constituency. It is one single constituency which is spread in two districts with some part lying in Upper Subansiri and others in the Lower Subansiri District. Due to division of administrative block in two different districts it causes lots of problem in developmental activities of this constituency. Raga constituency is geographically vast which covers an area of above 300 kms and population of over 25,000 thousands. So, demanding for separate Kamla district is genuine one.
We also extend deep sadness towards our local representative for his dormancy towards creation of Kamla Districts. It is long pending demand since from 1980 but unfortunately it has not succeed .It is moral responsibility of our local representatives to raise the voice in the interest of common public in the floor of the assembly house. The people of Raga constituency are not able to place their grievances to our local MLA because most of the time he stays at non reachable area. It seems that he is not taking much interest to resolve the problems of the people as well as area of his constituency.
We firmly request Govt. of A.P and our local MLA to accelerate the creation of the Kamla district before the assembly election 2014.

Apropos to the news article 'LDV needs to be included under Minority Block-
Arunachal and hitherto skewed developments is definitely everyone's concern, but
to ideate it paucity of fund anytime and every time is a sheer misadventure. We as
an informed Arunachalee should be wary of such misadventure. With most of the developments
(infrastructure, education, health etc) massively dependent on central grants and
almost nonexistent revenue to boast about-
In all these diktats and melodrama we are forced to be in sync with, by the centre
and it's ever blessing High Command. We forget to fight for what's entitled to each
one of us. Each and every tribe of Arunachal -
Paucity of fund and urgency of development needs to take backseat now. We need to
claim for what is rightfully ours and in this time of discrimination -

Is PPA following Aam Admi Way?

The burning issues raised by PPA leadership so far are no less than Aam Aadmi Party of Arvind Kezriwal. The crusade against political defection by MLAs, gender justice by putting a ban on plural marriage to aspirants of Party tickets, assurance to go beyond 33% reservation to Womenfolk, exposing institutional corruptions in Govt Depts, issuing model code of conduct of the Party wherein the use of money and false promises, culture of Ponung and gift giving or receiving and erection of welcome gates and conspicuous consumption of Indian made foreign liquors etc are quite appreciable. The declaration of its Chief Ministerial Candidate much in advance and continuous attack on the misdoings of the Govt, financial indiscipline, skyrocketing price rice of essential commodities, deteriorating law and order scenario and putting forward party’s Vision plan for 25 years and election manifesto involving the Professors of Rajiv Gandhi University with inputs from cross section of public are some commendable initiatives which have certainly raised new hopes and optimism for better Arunachal.
Over the last three months or so the party is continuously in limelight. The proposal for raising the upper age limit to 40years for the unemployed youths of the state and raising the retirement age from 58 to 60 years have found a new wave of supporters especially among Govt employees. Also the proposal for a holistic policy for the youths, physically challenged persons, farmers etc have found appreciations everywhere. The performance of the lone opposition MLA Laeta Umbrey both inside Assembly and outside have further reinforced the hopes of rebuilding the almost defunct party as well as the State. With the joining of TMC and strong team of NCP leaders into PPA fold and also the formation of North East Regional political Front consisting of ten Regional Parties with a vision to end the high command based parties like Congress and BJP in the North East Region, the stage is all set for PPA to prove itself as the Aam Aadmi party of Arunachal and negate the Modi or Rahul wave in Arunachal.

Since the day Arvind Kejriwal, ex IRS and an IITian started to claim himself to be an Aam Admi I have been pondering who elite is. The opposite of common man is elite or uncommon man. If Delhi chief minister is not elite I don’t know who is elite. Now million dollar question is (as per my observation) if Delhi chief minister is elite and ex IRS is an AAM admi(common man) will Kejriwal remain common man? Will he be on queue for gas connection, bank, traffic jam etc?If answer is no, how can he be called as aam admi, if yes how will he manage the government affairs because he will busy like other aam admi.
Sale dream and fulfill it. Being human all are not humane. Indians can be fooled easily. Oh yes I have the answer who are uncommon and elite, not aam admi. Yes they are scientist and film actor. I think soldier and police. Yes, you are right list is unending. So Kejriwal and his party aam admi is against these people. Please enlightened readers like us, what is the exact antonym of AAM ADMI/common man?
